Video: ten filthy hotel rooms as reviewed by travelers

Feb 26th 2011 10:15PM One time, I rented an apartment in a big complex that had just gone bankrupt. The apartment manager was a temporary caretaker for the mortgage holder who would not spend any money on the apartments. The apartment was a real dump, even the apartment number was missing from the door. Well, there was a continuous turnover in the management, and they would never fix anything, so I eventually withheld my rent money. They never said anything, and the months went by. Eventually, I figured it out that they didn't know I was living there, or didn't care because of the bankruptcy, turnover, etc. I lived in the apartment almost a year until it was time to move on. One day I packed up and left, and a couple of months later they bulldozed the place down. The pictures remind me of the old place, but at least the rent was reasonable.

Feb 26th 2011 10:05PM I lived in Paris and stayed at what was supposed to be one of the better apartments, and they turned off the hot water for the entire month of August. It seems that if you are a poor slob who has to work in August instead of going on vacation, you are not good enough for hot water.

Linens 'N Things Purchase a Nightmare: Help Me, WalletPop!

Jan 6th 2011 11:12AM The first problem is buying such an expensive ornament. Stupid waste of money. The second problem is that the lady seems to think everything and everybody has to jump when she says so. The third thing is that the lady seems to be incapable of doing anything herself, except give orders. If the sale rep was "rude" to her, you can only imagine what she was saying when she started complaining.

Lessons From the Recession: 10 Things We Learned in 2010

Dec 31st 2010 12:04AM So, the question is: "Why should you live so much better than your counterpart in some other country in some other part of the world. What did you do? You think you are entitled to live dumb, fat and happy because you grandfather won WWII and built an economy that dominated the world? You don't produce anything, don't add value to anything, but always complain because there are billions of other people in other parts of the world that will work and do a better job for less." Take a look at the snow in NYC and the problems caused by a prima donna labor union. What is happening is that the pie is shrinking, and there is a social fight for the size the crumbs. And, if you are young, nothing special, lazy and uneducated, you are going to find yourself at the bottom where you will be no better off than your counterpart in some other part of the world. The days when your granddaddy carried you are gone.

Lessons From the Recession: 10 Things We Learned in 2010

Dec 30th 2010 11:40PM Ann Brenoff will have a much longer list at the end of 2011. This recession is a long way from being over. There will be no recovery as long as Obama is in office, and after that, only to the extent of what remains to recover from his strangulation of the economy. His policies for the past 2 years only made a bad situation worse and prevented a recovery. And now that the voters have rejected his congress, he intends to do as much damage as possible through regulation instead of legislation. It's a long way down until Obama is gone.

She is actually just someone who has made the most with what they have got. There are actually many specimens that are far more attractive and talented.

Tribal Tourism: Ethical Or Exploitative?

Dec 14th 2010 10:16PM If you are a liberal, you probably think that these people should live in squalor so that you can get your cultural kicks. Being environmentally green is more important than these people. Now, if you are conservative, you hope that they discover oil on their land, and they all get rich.

Could Your Favorite Color Actually Guide Your Career?

Jun 24th 2010 3:44PM Just to mention one of the tricks that colleges pull on freshmen, so be aware. If you are seeking a degree to gain entry into one of the more prestigious professions, they will give you an aptitude test. You will fail that test and will be counseled to seek another easier degree. It is not true, they are simply determining if you are committed and dedicated to the work required.
