The long-sleeved gown with English and French Chantilly lace appliqué bodice and satin gazar pleated skirt by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen paid homage to the dress the Hollywood star wore when she married the Prince of Monaco in 1956.
But apparently we didn't have to go back 50 years in sartorial history to find the royal wedding's garment twin. Actress Isabella Orsini, goddaughter of Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, married Belgian Prince Edouard de Ligne in 2009 wearing an uncanny lookalike, the Daily Mail points out.
Made by Belgian designer Gerald Watelet, Orsini's dress, like Kate's, featured a lace bodice, long sleeves and an impressive train. Both brides also donned veils and sparkling tiaras. Although Kate's Cartier "Halo" tiara, which was borrowed from the Queen, can't be matched.
European newspapers and magazines have dubbed the duchess "Copycat Kate." But Orsini doesn't mind the similarities.
The brunette beauty told Italian magazine Novella 2000: "As soon as the Duchess of Cambridge went out to go to church, I thought her dress was a copy of mine." Adding, "It means Kate Middleton has good taste."

oh for pete's sake, SO WHAT? Who really cares about that? Does this REALLY matter when it all comes down to it?
ReplyMiddleton's dress was far more beautiful and looked like it was put together much better. It would have been impossible for Middleton to have a completely unique dress that had never been designed before, unless it would have been something the ridiculous GaGa might wear. Give it a rest, all of you Middleton haters. She hasn't done anything awful to the world. She's not deserving of all of this ugliness.
ReplyThe media gets more pathetic by the day.
ReplyThis is not news..........mearly desperate Papparazzi reporting ...
Micael Laufik...get a real job.
I for one wouldn't want to copy Grace's gown. it was so high up on the neck It looked like it could choke her. Where do these people think that Kate copied the dress? She didn't design the dress, so how could she copy it? LOL! What ludicrous nonsense. She looked really lovely In her gown.
ReplyBTW, even Diana used to look at her wedding album sometimes & wish that her dress wasn't
so big & full.
they are not the same dress..one has a lace top and the other had a plain top...kate has more lace than the other one...but anyway there both beautifull...
ReplyWho really cares if Kate Middleton's wedding dress was similar to another brides dress. If it was a supposed copy then it was a compliment to the other bride who wore it. Isn't there an expression that copying or some word like that is a compliment to the person who first said it or wore it?
ReplyReally there are only so many ways that designer's can produce a unique wedding dress that no other bride has ever worn.
Stop picking on Kate Middleton, she married the man she loves & has been with him for many years so she must really love him to become involved with a person that has so many things attached to him.
