lifetime royal wedding movie
Lifetime

Film critics across the pond aren't holding their peace when it comes to Lifetime's upcoming royal wedding-inspired flick, William & Kate: Let Love Rule. The network, best known for Tori Spelling thrillers and made-for-TV dramas, recounts the young couple's fairy-tale love story, from their first meeting at St. Andrew's to last year's proposal.

"Insufferably idiotic," reviewer Richard Fitzwilliams expressed on this morning's Today show, while Valentine Low of The Times said the soap opera is "best shown silent on a blank screen."

Starring British actress Camilla Luddington as Middleton and New Zealand-born Nico Evers-Swindell as Prince William, the movie premieres Monday, April 18, and will be available on DVD in the UK starting April 25 -- hitting shelves just in time for the big day.

But don't expect Brits to buy into the mushy portrayal of Prince William and Kate Middleton's eight-year courtship. It's "unashamedly aimed at satisfying an American fantasy version of the British royal family," Michael Holden of Reuters describes. "Having more in common with a cheesy Disney animated story than any accurate portrayal of the couple's relationship."

The upcoming nupitals are expected to set a new TV broadcast record of two billion viewers. Could this movie reach an all-time low? Judge for yourself. Watch the trailer below:
